In the conditions as we have in the Czech Republic were many dams (especially the big ones), and water structures in general, were built many years ago (some masonry dams were built more than a hundred years ago) the projects of their rehabilitations and reconstructions are solved.

 

Nowadays we expect water structures to be in operations not just for decades but for hundreds years. This raise questions about materials aging, structures long time behavior, stability and deformation, subsoil property changes, new hydrological data, increased safety standards, environmental issues and many more before the right solutions can designed.
